CAMPSITE #36 ~ HORSESHOE CAMPING LOOP.

Lake Whitney State Park is a great place to bring your travel trailer and boat, and most sites are large enough to store both at the campsite.

Our trip took place in August, and temperatures were over 100’s. Having our boat along made this scorching camping trip very enjoyable. Lake Whitney is a popular fishing lake, and there are lots of great swimming holes, too!

TRAVEL PHOTOS, TRIVIA & TIPS:

Lake Whitney State Park is on the shore of Lake Whitney and very popular with fishermen, especially from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

This park includes a nice boat ramp with a courtesy dock, although parking may be limited on a busy day.

Interesting to note that if you don’t have a boat, you can bring your plane! There is actually a small runway in the park (check with the ranger station first).

CAMPSITE:

You can park your boat with your camper at most sites. This is VERY convenient.

Plenty of room for two vehicles, a trailer, and a boat!

Mrs. Padilly’s campsite was #36 in the Horseshoe Camping Loop. This loop is not close to the water but does provide full hook-ups.

Our site had LOTS of elbow room to set up camp, including a fire pit and a concrete picnic table on the slab.

There are some nice waterfront RV sites, but they only have water and electricity (such as this site, #103).

Our campsite was big enough for two vehicles, one pulling our Shasta and the other pulling our C-Dory. Since we camped during the workweek, when crowds are lower, we could get this big site, which normally would be used for bigger trailers/motorhomes.

TIPS:

Remember, this is a big weekend destination for the Dallas – Ft. Worth area, so plan if you want a bigger pull-true.

“Howdy!” from Miss Roxie

Wildlife abounds at this park, especially dear. We had a band of wild turkeys cut through our campsite. And even though our campsite is located under a canopy of trees, we were still treated to a nice sunset.

Do you like to camp in a tent? This park has some of the best tent sites we have seen — and many on or near the water!

There are only two short hiking trails at this park – the focus here is on the water.

The bathrooms are a bit old, but they look like they are in the process of putting in new ones. We saw one new bathroom under construction near the tent camping sites, and it looks like it will include AC.

We totally enjoyed our stay here, and especially the time we spent boating on the lake.
